Description
Here is the EDITED version of my gift to the lovely *dublindoors / =smudge-92 / ~Nanurtalik c:
I knew you loved orcas, and I had never drawn one before so originally I was kinda curious but kinda on edge on the idea. Besides, I had NO idea what I could even draw. So I was going to go against it, until I looked at your list of songs.
FYI, this IS my new favorite song.
After listening to the song Sink or Swim this entire image just blossomed in my mind, and I must admit that this looks exactly how I pictured it. Hopefully you can see it, as I took this picture with my iPhone camera, but the left is black, a dark purple, and somewhat 'murky'. The right (Where the orcas are swimming) is bright, and splattered with white.
I intended this to be a sort of 'swim to safety/happiness' sort of thing, the dark and the light. I loved the entire chorus, but because I was trying to center it around swimming and the orcas I figured only to use those three lines.
It took a while to draw the first orca, but it is based off of This picture. The smaller orca(Baby? I think too big to be a baby) was drawn freehand with no references. Was a little shocked it didn't look terrible.
I first drew it with pencil, lightly writing in the words. Then I went over with a pen, then painted the orcas, then the background, and then painted on the words. I was a bit impatient as I was so excited with my outcome some of the words bled a bit, but it is isn't that noticeable. If you can't see it though, I will admit it is the word 'sail' that came out a bit awkward.
I put an on this version, but I couldn't decide if I liked it or the original better. I'll let you decide. (: Seen here.
Happy (VERY) late birthday!!!

Holy, omg! Excuse me while I go sink or swim in my own tears!
Beware, all the tears!! asdfghjkl!!! ♥ ♥
Seriously though, I love what you've done here; both edited and non-edited versions. They're beautiful, and, of course, blue is my favourite colour! I love what you did to create it. It would've been so much fun to see you draw this (even if it wasn't a surprise!). I love how you've managed to tie the chorus in with the killer whales. Oh so perfect! Thank you so much for this lovely gift and entry into the competition!
